SR-71 Blackbird 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

The SR-71 Blackbird is an amazing achievement in aeronautical engineering. It also has one of the meanest looks of any plane.

The quality of some of these older shots aren't up to current standards but I'm taking them as far as I can with Photoshop rework. Typical issues are high grain, poor color, lack of contrast, etc. Enjoy!

Space Shuttle Discovery Liftoff 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

As you know, most Space Shuttle liftoff shots are in portrait format. I decided to do an artistic touch and convert to landscape (widescreen) format. I think the effect works and it makes for a unique desktop background.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Royal Air Force GR4 Tornado 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a great shot of the GR4 refueling. I used to see Tornados when they would participate in Red Flag exercises at Nellis AFB. Definitely a work-horse aircraft capable of many mission types.

Shot took some post-processing work since the original was somewhat washed out. The end product is beautiful.

Friday Video: Amazing F/A-22 Raptor Demonstration

No other fighter in US inventory can perform maneuvers like the F/A-22. Check out this kick-ass Friday video. This is one heck of a fighter jet. Enjoy!

Polish MIG-29 Fulcrum 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a shot of the MIG-29 after landing. One of the best Soviet fighters and still feared among many pilots.

Enjoy!

F-5 Aggressor 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Today's widescreen wallpaper is from aviation photographer Bill Osmun. Check out Bill's work over at AfterBurnerPhoto.com

I love the aggressor paint scheme on the F-5. Anyone recognize the shape of the F-5 as the fictionalized "Mig-28" in Top Gun?

If you have a great shot you'd like to share here, please send it to widescreenwallpapers@hotmail.com.

F-16C Falcon At Sunset 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a great sunset shot of an F-16C. The burning orange and red colors and the engineering beauty of the aircraft perfectly match.

Only slight work on this shot. Cropped to 1680, lightened/contrast adjustment, and a slight saturation boost. It's a beautiful scene.

Royal Air Force GR4 Tornado Refueling 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a great plane loved by many of our European allies. This shot shows the GR4 Tornado catching a drink from a tanker.

FSX: F-5A Sunset 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

I love flying and Microsoft Flight Simulator X is one of best flight sims on the market today. One of the great things about having a widescreen monitor is being able to fly in 1680 x 1050 resolution where you can truly immerse yourself in this virtual world.

I took this shot off the California coast at dusk with building storm clouds. I'm flying an F-5A mod (with an enhanced flight model done by yours truly).

I've currently got this shot as my desktop background and my wife was like "wow, where did you get that!" If any of you have great shots in widescreen format you'd like to share, send them along to me at widescreenwallpapers@hotmail.com. If I like the shot and it meets my quality standards, I'll be glad to post it here.

Enjoy!

CVN-74 United States Naval Nuclear Carrier 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

It's an amazing floating airport that can project power around the globe. The nuclear carrier is another modern marvel of technology. Trying to land on one of these at night is one of the most difficult skills to master.

The shades of blue and the clouds add a dramatic touch to this shot. I mostly adjusted the contrast and saturation.

Enjoy!

B-2A and F-15E Formation 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Love the formation shots. Here's a B-2A with two F-15E Strike Eagles.

This picture required a lot of rework to complete. It's amazing what you can do with Photoshop...

Enjoy!

F-14D Tomcat 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

If you look closely in this picture you'll see a laser guided bomb near the centerline. I believe they called these air to ground Tomcats "Bombcats". Great name.

Enjoy this nice widescreen background.

F-15C and KC-135R Refueling 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a nice shot of an F-15C catching some fuel from a KC-135R. Gotta love those refitted tankers with huge turbofan engines.

Standard processing. Enjoy!

You'll love this video of Blue Angel #5 doing a high speed pass about 25 feet above the water in San Francisco Bay.

Enjoy!

F-16C Fighting Falcon 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Back in the day, I worked on F-16s (the old A and B models). The plane is a fighter pilot's dream and one of the sexiest looking planes ever designed.

Through the years the plane took some middle age weight and evolved into a much more capable multi-role fighter. Bigger engines, better avionics, more weapons, today's F-16 is an amazing aircraft.

F-15C Eagle 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

It's Friday and we all made it through another week! Here's a beautiful widescreen desktop background of the F-15C Eagle. I personally love the camo pattern the USAF started putting on the Eagles. Much better than the old monotone paint scheme.

Standard processing. Boosted the contrast, saturation, and sharpened it.

USN E-2C Hawkeye 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a shot of the Navy's mini-AWACS E-2C Hawkeye. Gotta love those high tech props.

The original was is good shape and it only needed a crop with slight adjustments. Enjoy!

B-52 Bomber In Cockpit 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

This shot lets you come for a ride in USAF B-52 bomber. Check out the eight rows of systems/engine gauges! It's a great angle to also check out the perspective a pilot sees when refueling.

F/A-18F Super Hornet 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

This shot has a dramatic look due to the camera panning with the aircraft and thus freezing the aircraft while blurring the background. Take a look and see for yourself.

USN T-45 Goosehawk Trainer 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Nice shot of the Naval trainer T-45 on approach to a carrier. Interesting that they paint it orange and white (similar to the test aircraft in the USAF). Bet it's a fun plane to fly.

Minor work with saturation, contrast, and sharpening.

HH-60 Pavehawk 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Call this "chopper with a flare..."

Here's an action shot with a USAF special ops chopper popping a flare. Cool looking helo.

This shot required some processing work as the color scheme was slightly off. I think it turned out well.

F-15D Aggressor 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

I don't know what it is, but I love the aggressor paint scheme. This shot makes a great widescreen background. Enjoy!

A-10 Thunderbolt II Formation 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

This plane was born to kill tanks. If you've ever seen a 30mm round, it's about 18 inches long and packs a high explosive punch.

Here's a great two-ship formation shot. Enjoy!

F-14D Tomcat 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

You voted the F-14 (along with the F/A-22 Raptor) as your favorite aircraft. I remember seeing the F-14 as a kid at the Pt. Mugu naval airshow.

The airbase was near the ocean and the F-14 would get the biggest condensation blooms when flying just under the speed of sound. They would get so big the aircraft would disappear in them. There was nothing like this plane. Enjoy.

Blue Angel F/A-18C 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Great shot of Blue Angel #5 upside down in home town of Pensacola, Florida.

Another reason I love this shot is that I got married on this same beach just a few miles down.

F/A-18C Carrier Landing 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Love this shot. Here's an F-18C just about to land on the carrier. The ocean colors add a nice contrast.
