It's been way too long since we've had a good F-14 Tomcat wallpaper. Check out these F-14D Tomcats in formation. I'm still in denial that these amazing fighters are no longer flying.

National Naval Aviation Museum F-14D 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper
Over the weekend my wife and I traveled to Pensacola, Florida to visit my in-laws. While there, we all visited the National Naval Aviation Museum located at Pensacola Naval Air Station. The museum is one of the finest in the United States and as the name says, it focuses on Naval aviation.
The aircraft in the museum are top-notch restorations and the exhibits are breathtaking. If you love aircraft, you have to put this on your list of must-see museums.
This first picture of the F-14D is today's widescreen wallpaper. This baby still had her GE engines and was in excellent shape.

In one section of the museum they have a four-ship of Blue Angel A-4s in the diamond formation. It's great to stand on the bottom floor and look up at these beautiful aircraft. The next picture is of me sitting in a Blue Angel F-4 Phantom. They have a lot of aircraft cockpits you can jump into. I sat myself in an F-4, A-7, and F-14. You could spend hours here and the amazing part is that admission is FREE!

F-14D Tomcat 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's another picture from the navy's grandpa. After 32 years serving in the USN, these planes retired in 2006. The variant F-14A is also famous from the movie Top Gun.
I did some color corrections, the original picture had a red shine. I added some contrast.

F-14D Tomcat 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper
If you look closely in this picture you'll see a laser guided bomb near the centerline. I believe they called these air to ground Tomcats "Bombcats". Great name.Enjoy this nice widescreen background.

F-14D Tomcat 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper
You voted the F-14 (along with the F/A-22 Raptor) as your favorite aircraft. I remember seeing the F-14 as a kid at the Pt. Mugu naval airshow. The airbase was near the ocean and the F-14 would get the biggest condensation blooms when flying just under the speed of sound. They would get so big the aircraft would disappear in them. There was nothing like this plane. Enjoy.

F-14D Tomcat On Carrier 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper
F-14D Widescreen Wallpaper. The morning fog and steam combine to create an eerie, mesmerizing effect. I love it. The F-14D is on the carrier waiting to be launched and looking ready to kill.
The primary work on this picture was to crop it, adjust levels, and contrast.

F-14D High Speed Pass 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper
F-14D High Speed Pass 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper.Ok, this shot is simply stunning. The condensation formed from the aircraft being near Mach 1.0 adds the needed visual punch.
Shot is cropped to add impact (nothing lost since original just had more blue space). Levels were lightened and contrast enhanced. Slight saturation boost and sharpening.
