KC-10 Tanker 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Hello!
Here's Pieter again. Here's another photo from the Leeuwarden airshow. This beauty was doing a low speed pass at 5 meters above the ground over the whole landingstrip. I had to put my lens back to 50mm to take a picture of the hole plane.

friday Video: Leeuwarden Airshow

Here is the video report from the Leeuwarden airshow. It's difficult to film with a steady hand over such a distance. I hope it doesn't bother you too much. Enjoy!

CH47 Chinook 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Hello, here's a cool picture from a CH47 Chinook. I used my wide angle lens to accentuate how huge the blades of this helicopter are.
These provide the helicopter with a really typical sound.

Oke enough from the static. Tomorrow a photo from the flying display.

greetings,
Pieter

Flying the F-18 in FSX 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a shot from inside the cockpit of an F/A-18C Hornet in FSX. There's nothing like flying around in a Hornet!

Like Pieter mentioned, I'm out of town starting today (going to San Francisco for work related stuff). Pieter will cover and post some of the great shots he's taken from the airshow.

Too bad I missed the solo display...

Who wants more?

Leeuwarden (The Netherlands) airshow 2008 report

Hello, Here's Pieter from Belgium back. last saturday I went to the Leeuwarden airshow with my friends. I must say I'm impressed. The most spectacular show was the base attack. The aircraft that participated were 10 x F-16A MLU, 1 x KDC-10 tanker, 2x AH-64 Apache, 2x CH-47 Chinook and 2x AS 532U2 Cougar MkII. Really amazing!!!

Oke Here are some pictures:

Other aircraft that were demonstrated:
Eurofighter, F16, F15, F18, Mig 29, Tornado, P-140 Auora, B-25, NH-90, Alouette III, CH-47, SAR Seaking, UH-1, Hawker Hunter T-8C, F-4E, BAe Harrier GR7/9, KDC-10,...

I have about 500 pictures and 30 min of video footage.

If you want a wallpaper of one of the previous aircraft. You ask, I'll post!

F-22 Raptor In Formation With Royal Air Force Red Arrows 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Nice shot of the F/A-22 with the Royal Air Force Red Arrows. The Red Arrows fly the BAE Hawk aircraft (a low cost trainer) but fly spectacular demonstrations.

P-51 Mustang Rolls Royce Engine 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

If you've ever heard the P-51 fly-by, you'll recognize the distinctive sound of the supercharged 12 cylinder Rolls Royce engine. Here's a shot I took while at an airshow a few years ago.

This plane was part of a racing series and the team was performing maintenance. It was the first time I've seen the engine without the cowling on.

Friday Video: The F-16C Overview

This video is not about great production values or awesome footage, but it does give a great systems overview of the F-16C Fighting Falcon. Ignore the narration and corny music, it's got great content.

F-18F Super Hornet Carrier Landing 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Check out the F/A-18F Super Hornet on final for a carrier landing. Interesting configuration with four external and one center-line fuel tanks. I wonder if they fly missions in that config or if it is just a ferry flight.

F-15E Strike Eagle Refueling 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Check out this beauty. The F-15E Strike Eagle is catching a drink from a tanker while on a mission.

F/A-18F Super Hornet Bank Turn To Land 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Nice framing of this F/A-18F Super Hornet with the moon. Check out the grime on this aircraft! I told you about Navy planes...

Eurofighter Typhoon 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Hello!
Here's Pieter back! My examens are finally finished and I think I did quite well. Next saturday I'll go to the Leeuwarden airshow and this is one of the airplanes I will see there. Armed with my brand new Canon D400 I will take a lot of pictures for the blog. Here's an excellent picture of a Eurofighter.
Anyone who will come too? See you there!

F-16C Fighting Falcon on Takeoff 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Nice shot of an F-16C from Shaw AFB taking-off. Looks like it's the squadron bird with all the tail colors and squadron info. We used to have squadron commander's aircraft that were kept in great shape. I think we called it the "wing ding's bird".

Friday Video: Hornet Driver

Sweet video with tons of great action from the cockpit. You'll love it.

F-15E Strike Eagle 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

The F-15E Strike Eagle is an amazing plane. I had a USAF friend who worked on them (after we both worked on F-16s) and he got me in the cockpit.

Back in the 90's this was "the" tactical bomber. I don't know if any of you remember Janes F-15 Strike Eagle flight simulator but I helped work on that (beta testing).

The F-15E isn't as fast or maneuverable as the F-15C but it's a sophisticated weapons platform.

F-15 and F-16 Aggressors Formation 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

If I could do anything, one of the jobs I'd pick is aviation photographer. Check out this great shot of F-15 and F-16 Aggressor aircraft in formation. Wish I was there...

B-1B Bomber With Sniper XR Targeting Pod 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a great profile shot of the B-1B carrying the Sniper XR advanced targeting pod. Now the B-1B can drop and direct laser-guided weapons!

A-10 Rolling In 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

This shot is like many of the murals I've seen on squadron walls. Here's an A-10 rolling in to a attack. It's a great shot.

Video: B-2 Bomber Crash

Back in the 1990's I worked at Northrop on the B-2A Stealth Bomber. I suppose with every platform you know there will be attrition, but that fact doesn't make watching this billion dollar bomber go up in flames any easier.

Fast forward the video to the 2:00 minute mark to see the crash aircraft. The first aircraft that takes off is fine... it's the second one that crashes.

Friday Video: F-18 Cat Shot Off Carrier

Check out what it's like to get shot off a Navy carrier in an F-18. Notice the pilot doesn't touch the stick until after airborne. The flight control system automatically rotates the aircraft to takeoff angle of attack (10-18 degrees). Gotta love computer flying!

Leave your guesses in the comments. When you get it, I'll post the winner!

UPDATE: Congrats to Marc who was first to correctly guess the X-29! Kristof came in a close second. You guys are good!

French Navy Dassault Rafale Head-on 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

I think the picture says it all, but the Rafale is both beautiful and menacing. A true fighter aircraft.

French Navy Rafale Carrier Landing 1680 x 1050

The French do joint training exercises with the US Navy. Here's a shot of the Rafale practicing carrier landings. It's one beautiful fighter jet.

B-52 and F-18s over the USS Nimitz

Here's a shot you don't see often. A B-52 Bomber in formation with F-18Cs over the Nimitz carrier. They were probably playing war games and the B-52 got intercepted (as usual).
