I've seen a few full-AB takeoffs and this jet can get off the ground in a hurry. It was also known for having one the best radars in it's day. Of course with the F/A-22 out in the field, the F-15 has to take second seat. :)

I love the F-16E. Can't believe we don't have a bunch of these in the USAF. This beautiful aircraft flies under the banner of the United Arab Emirates. Practically no drag penalty either for those over-wing conformal tanks. Bad to the bone.

There's nothing more powerful than a B-1B full afterburner takeoff. This baby is one of the loudest aircraft you'll ever hear. Simply awesome.

When I was stationed at Nellis AFB, there was only one aircraft that ever woke me up -- the B-1B. You get used to the F-16s and F-15s flying early morning ops, but when a B-1B would takeoff, it was thunderous and shook the entire dorm building. Loved it.

Here's an excellent shot of an F/A-18F Super Hornet taking off from a carrier. Framing the focus on the ground crewman makes the shot much more powerful.

SR-71 Afterburner 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

The SR-71 (in this shot I believe it is the YF-12 two seater) had the most pronounced and distinct afterburner diamond shockwaves.

I remember as a young boy attending the Pt. Mugu airshow in California. During the show they had an unscheduled appearance of the SR-71. It made one high speed pass and then came around for a low speed pass. During the low speed pass, the jet pitched up, went into full afterburner, and in a matter of seconds completely disappeared from view. Everyone was clapping and cheering. It was an amazing demonstration of pure power and something I never forgot.

In later years I saw the SR-71 again at Nellis AFB while I was stationed there. It made an emergency landing due to some system malfunctions and was puking hydro fluid everywhere.

After the standard widescreen crop, the shot required more work with levels and contrast to finish it. A slight saturation boost and sharpening and it was finished.

Pure power on this one. The shot is spot on in focus and you can almost feel the 50,000 lbs of thrust.

Not much to do on this one. Cropped to 1680 and then adjusted saturation, contrast, and sharpened.

Sweet high AOA afterburner shot.

The original shot was in portrait format. I rotated and cropped to 1680. The rotation left some dead areas so I needed to duplicate the sky around the corners.

I adjusted the levels, contrast, saturation, and sharpening. It's a great shot.

You have to love a shot that has both condensation and afterburners. This picture exudes raw power.

I cropped it and adjusted the contrast. Shot needed a minor saturation adjustment. Sharpened the image as well. The focus of the shot is just slightly off, but overall it's an amazing photo.
